Capral’s Panoramic Sliding Door Wins 2026 Australian Good Design Award

Capral Aluminium’s Panoramic Sliding Door has been recognised for design excellence at the 2026 Australian Good Design Awards, winning a prestigious Australian Good Design Award in the Product Design – Hardware and Building category.

Established in 1958, the Australian Good Design Awards are Australia’s longest-running international design awards program and one of the world’s most respected design recognition programs. The Awards celebrate excellence in design, innovation and creativity across 13 disciplines and more than 30 categories, recognising projects that demonstrate outstanding design and make a positive impact.

With a record-breaking number of entries received in 2026, Capral’s Panoramic Sliding Door was among the projects recognised for demonstrating design excellence, innovation and engineering.

Developed by Capral’s Technical Solutions Group, the Panoramic Sliding Door was designed to deliver the architectural appeal of large-format glazing while meeting the performance requirements of Australian conditions. The system accommodates glass panels up to 3.4 metres high and 2.4 metres wide, with panel weights of up to 320 kg. Its slim 30 mm interlock, recessed sill and concealed drainage system create a refined, minimal appearance, while its engineered roller system supports smooth operation despite the scale of the panels.

In recognising the design, the Australian Good Design Awards Jury praised the system’s combination of architectural refinement, environmental performance and engineering.

“The Jury recognises the Panoramic Sliding Door as a highly refined architectural system that successfully combines large-scale glazing, environmental performance and precise engineering within a restrained formal language. The project demonstrates how locally manufactured building technology can advance both spatial quality and technical performance in contemporary residential architecture.”

Capral’s Head of Technology Solutions Group, Matt Leishman, welcomed the recognition, highlighting the importance of developing architectural systems specifically for the Australian market.

“It’s great to see the Panoramic Sliding Door recognised with an Australian Good Design Award. A lot of work has gone into developing a system that gives architects the freedom to create these large, open spaces without compromising on performance.

With a product like this, it’s not just about how it looks. It’s about making sure it operates smoothly, performs as expected and stands up to Australian conditions. That’s something our team has put a lot of thought and engineering into, so it’s really rewarding to see that work recognised.”

The Australian Good Design Award follows further industry recognition for Capral’s Panoramic Sliding Door, which was also awarded Most Innovative Window System at the 2026 Australian Glass and Window Association (AGWA) Industry Awards.

Together, these awards recognise both the architectural design and technical innovation behind the system, reinforcing Capral’s commitment to developing high-performance aluminium window and door solutions for the Australian market.

Barry Lunn, Building Systems Divisional Manager at Capral Aluminium, said receiving recognition from both awards is a significant achievement for Capral and the teams behind the Panoramic Sliding Door.

“To receive recognition from both the AGWA Industry Awards and the Australian Good Design Awards is a fantastic achievement for Capral.

The Australian Good Design Awards are internationally recognised for celebrating excellence in design, quality and originality, so to see our Panoramic Sliding Door recognised on this stage is particularly rewarding.

These awards reflect the work that goes into developing new systems and our ongoing commitment to delivering innovative, locally engineered solutions for the Australian building industry.”

The recognition further reinforces Capral’s position at the forefront of Australian research, design and engineering, and its commitment to developing innovative aluminium window and door systems that respond to the evolving needs of the Australian building industry.
